Duties

The Protocol Secretary serves as an assistant to the Ambassador’s Protocol Assistant and will be responsible for processing incoming invitations for the Ambassador. He/she will prepare an invitation cover sheet for each invitation received, accept or regret the invitation on behalf of the Ambassador and follow up on relevant information about the event and the Ambassador’s role in it.  The incumbent will make appointments for the Ambassador and will process the Ambassador’s, and spouses’ travel orders and vouchers. He/she will assist in data base maintenance, translations for the Front Office and will handle general clerical and administrative duties in support of the office. He/she will also assist the DCM’s Protocol Assistant and other Front Office staff on an as needed basis. The Protocol Secretary is directly supervised by the Protocol Assistant and receives instructions and guidance from the Ambassador’s Staff Assistant.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: 


- Two (2) years of secretarial or office administration experience is required.


 

Education Requirements:

Two years of post secondary education or completion of other post-secondary educational program or degree (apprenticeship, vocational education, college studies) in the fields of foreign language studies, office administration, business management, or public administration is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Fluent English and German language skills - reading/speaking/writing required. 


SKILLS AND ABILITIES: please address this factor in your ERA application under major duties and responsibilities.


- Must be able to write German correspondence with little, or no, subsequent editing requirements.

Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs),working at the U.S. Mission in Germany receive a compensation package that include German social security benefits (health, care, unemployment and pension insurance).


For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office and are in line with Department of State EFM programs.


The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
